Before anyone says "Desert Tortoises are endangered", I KNOW! I WANT TO PRESERVE THEM AS MUCH AS I CAN! But here's the story as of today: a friend of mine who lives in Arizona got a baby tortoise from a friend who had adults that laid eggs... now I don't think that the adults were bought at a petstore, but I do not know. Now, after a few months, my friend has decided she is going to give me the tortoise... but I've never seen it. I THINK it is a desert tortoise baby, and if it is, I plan on finding it a good home... so the question is, if it turns out to be a desert tortoise, which program do you recommend I donate the turtle too in order to give it a good home and maybe do some kind of captive breeding/release program? I am hoping to get as many of the original hatchlings as I can to donate to someone who will be responsible (IF they are in fact desert tortoises, as I expect). Sad... :(
