Paul, if you bought 50lbs of crushed oyster shell as a calcium supplement, you will have that bag for a long, long time-LOL! I used to use Rep-Cal calcium supplement for my juvie sulcata. I sprinkled just a bit on the greens every day usually, along with a vitamin supplement (NekTon-Rep) in a 2:1 calcim to vitamin ratio. I give a cuttlebone in the enclosure for beak sharpening. Oyster shell is (I believe) 100% calcium carbonate, and Rep-Cal is 100% calcium carbonate, I believe made from crushed oyster shells. As these tortoises do tend to try to eat white rocks and pebbles, and the crushed oyster shell is sharp-edged, I would either crush some to sprinkle on the greens, keep some big pieces in there that they can't swallow...if they want to sharpen their beaks on it. But cuttlebone works well too (pet shop, bird section). Check out my care sheet on the Hatchling Haven website for some extracurricular reading. Browse the restof the site, it's really good. Good luck!
