Last year I hibernated two russians by
1) Eliminating food intake for at least 2 weeks
2) Soaking them regularly until they no longer eliminated waste
3) Reducing heat and light
4) Finally, placing them in plastic tubs with
slightly damp cypress mulch (holes in boxes for ventilation). By this time there was a spot in my basement that stayed in the 45-50F range for several weeks.
I left them there for 4 weeks. They lost only a few grams.
This year I'll shoot for 6 weeks or more if the temps are stable.
