In Reply to: Redfoot Still Won't Eat-Tried All Suggestions-Please Help!!! posted by Katie on October 28, 2001 at 22:50:22:
: Hi! I thank everyone for all their suggestions. I did put the mulch back since now I know that even if he did swallow some of the mulch, it is OK. I cannot take him outside, it is freezing at night, no 70s anymore here! I tried every food I could think of for him. He refused all. He has a water bowl in the enclosure at all times, but I give him soaks anyway, because he does not always use it on his own. He is kept very warm, not only is the heat on my house, but the temp in his enclosure is about 85, with a heat lamp at night, so he is plenty warm. I am getting really worried-he seems to have weakened a bit, and does not want to move around much, just wants to hide. He still shows no signs of what could be wrong, he is just on a "hunger stike" for some reason, and I just cannot figure out why. It may have something to do with the weather changes that I do not notice, but I am afraid if I do not find out what is wrong soon, I will loose him, and that is horrible and sad, and I feel like it is my fault becasue I do not know what he wants. How long can a turtle live when it will not eat, and should I force feed if he becomes to weak to eat? I hope it does not come to that, he is my "lil guy" and I want him to thrive!!! I thank everyone greatly for all information! Have a nice day!
