I have one male, Bell's Hingeback. I have had him about 4 years now. I live in So. CA and he is living outside year round in a greenhouse type structure. This is his first winter in his new home. Always before we would bring him in on cold days. He now has a covered area that stays dry and the weather has been staying in the 70's during the day so he is spending the winter outside. He is more active now than he was during the summer. Hingebacks like high humidity and he seems to like the cooler more humid conditions. He does not use his water bowl, so I have to bring him in about once a week for a soak or he gets constipated. He is a little bit of a picky eater, but he does eat well. He likes romaine lettuce, bananas, apples, slightly cooked carrots and his favorite is mangoe. Many people have trouble with hingebacks, because they are wild caught and are either sick or have parasites when they are bought. So far mine has been healthy but consider you will probably have to have your new tortoises treated by a vet after acquiring them
