I could not help but smile when reading Lloyds analogy about keeping an elephant in the house :)
Not to be a prude but if you did this, you would have to eventually reinforce the walls (not kidding!) as I had a five lb Sulcata dig a hole through the sheetrock.
Have you considered a Leopard Tort instead? These are charming gentle torts who don't get as big but are just as fascinating
