You mentioned that this is "Box Turtle and Tortoise Food." Correct? Perhaps the reason for the rapid growth is extra protein in the diet. I'm not very knowledgable on the subject, but from my understanding box turtles consume animal matter in their diet in addition to vegetation.
I would be wary not because of the rapid growth, but because of the differences in the dietary requirements of box turtles and desert tortoises.
In any case, someone has to figure this out sooner or later. At least that CDT is in a vet's hands, so they'll notice if something goes wrong.
