Animals that have larger litters or clutches often have such large numbers of progeny for a reason. Natural selection, survival of the fittest etc, apply here. Not every baby will live in the wild most babies die. In captivity we do much better, but are from perfect. With every baby tortoise I own, I soak them daily. I do not use a water bowl, just the daily soakings. Hydration is the number one key to good health in baby animals, they usually desicate very fast and risk dehydration.
