: Does anyone know what light puts out the most UVB? Metal Halide, High Pressure Sodium or Merc Vapor?
I have been researching this very thing lately because I am interested in using Zoo-Med's "Powersun UV" for my red foots. Apparently mercury vapour lights put out the most UVB of the three types. I have found several references to the danger of mercury vapour lamps due to their high UV production. Metal halides produce very little UV and High pressure sodium, from what I can gather so far, produce either little or none. HPS lights do produce the most light intensity of the three however. Mercury vapour lamps are used in medical/theraputic situations where exposure to UV is required. This site helped me.
