If you live in the northern lattitudes of the US the way I recomend is a box in the garage or basement. The whole thing is tricky because if it is to warm or too dry or too moist or too cold you run into problems. Try to find someone in your immediate area who has done this sucessfully for a few years. Contrary to the advice given by many it is not an easy task to successfully pull off. As proof of this monitor this forum over the next couple of months and in the spring to see how many people run into problems with this.
If you are not trying to breed these keep them up over the winter until you learn more. You get one chance. If it is not perfect the risk of loosing the animal is quite good. It is a great deal easier to keep it up in the winter but it does require some extra work.
