: : : : I have a three inch sulcata and he keeps getting this white-gray like film over his eyes. I heard they might get stuff on their eyes if malnutritioned. But this little beast is far from malnutritioned. I remove the film with a moist qtip....has anybody had this problem..what is it???

: : : It can also be from not enough humidity, or not enough vitamin A. Make sure you are giving some sort of supplement weekly. What are you feeding your tortoise, how much, and how often? Also describe its enclosure or where you keep it if outdoors.

: : I built a wooden box 4ft by 2ft. We are feeding him dark greens like dandillion greens. We give him a calcuim with prophasate(however it is spelt). I thought it might be the bedding. We are using cleanfresh. Ha sthis happened to you?

:
: I havent had those particular problems myself, but have seen them discussed many times on this forum and others.

: One thing I would recommend... find a supplement that has NO phosphorus... you need low phos. for the tortoises, they get as much as they need from the food, but calcium is necessary. You can also put pieces of cuttlebone in with your guy, they like to nibble on them. You can find these in pet supplies, they sell them for pet birds.

: I'm not sure about the substrate you are using, I've heard differing opinions about it. Hopefully someone else will give you more options. I use cypress bark mulch for my hermann's hatchlings.

What about naturebark by zoo-med it is made up of fir bark. I was thinking maybe half this bark and half reptile sand.
