: My neighbor has a gorgeous plant with many huge flowers on it that she calls a cactus dahlia. I've never heard of it, but the flowers look yummy (for Virgil) to me. They are just enormous and the blooms last for days. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi Lisa,
As far as I know, dahlias are edible. Cactus dahlia refers to the shape of the flower (petals are pointed). There are also pom-pom, dinner plate (huge flowers), and several others I can't think of right now. The whole plant is edible but make sure no fertilizer has been used on them. They grow from tubers (sorta like a potato). Hope this helps.
Martin
