Hi there,

My husband and I recently acquired 2 forest hingebacks, their names are Leafy-Trees and Leafy-Greens. Both are wild caught. Since we bought them from different sources, we are keeping them quarantined from one another until they get a clean bill of health from our vet. They are both making weekly trips to the vet. Both are loaded with worms and parasites, and have been undergoing treatment to eradicate them. So far, so good.

I would suggest you get them to a vet immediately to have them checked. You may even want to seperate them until they all have a clean bill of health.

Other than that, our little guys seem to be doing fine. They love to soak in their water dishes and get misted daily.

They are very shy creatures, and tend not to eat if they sense us around. But when they do eat, they seem to prefer rotten fruit, some dog food, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, other veggies and worms. Also, since they are shy, make sure they have plenty of hiding places.

It seems to us that they like moderate temps - between 70 and 80 degrees. We also provide them with a basking area, the light we use is a 75 watt black incandescent bulb. They seem to love the black light, they were not basking until we tried the black light. They also have a 4 foot flourescent reptisun uvb light.

We've read that they like to be in groups, so it's nice that you have a group of them. (:

Good luck, we'd be happy to exchange ideas and experiences with you on these wonderful creatures any time!

Peace,
~Christine

: Hey There All, I'm looking for a little advice. I aquired today a group of five Forest Hingeback tortoises. I bought them at a show in Chicago, for captive bred animals. I have one big problem However. I don't think my new tort's are captive bred, I beleive them to be wild caught. I am already the proud owner of several breeding group's including Sulcatta's, Bell's Hingebacks, and Bolivian Redfooted. So I'm not a total novice. However seeing these beauties just sent my heart a flutter and like a fool without asking alot of questions I just bought, now after a long car ride home I have them in there new habitat and, I'm doing some real looking over, and they appear to not be captive bred. Knowing the horror stories I've heard over wild caught, & parasite / mortality rates what do you all recommend that I do to help insure these boys and girls have a fine and long life? Thanks for all of your help. - Dave
