New Russian Tortise

I was just given a Russian Tortoise by a neighbor who bought it (from PetCo, of all places) and decided it wasn't her "type of pet" after about a week. I already have Malaysian box turtle who is doing great, but these are obviously two very different animals. I was wondering if anyone has any helpful tidbits. I have visiting all of the recommended sites and am okay with the feeding and housing, but was just wondering if there is anything special that I should know or if anyone has any tips that can only come from experiance. Also, another friend who has one lets it roam around his apartment, with a "safe haven" w/ a heat lamp and feeding area in an aquarium turned on its side. Any thoughts on that? Thanks!
