Heat for African Spurred Torts in Phoenix

I build a tortoise house with concrect block. You can heat it with an infrared bulb or a cermamic heat bulb but I don't believe it is required.

I have kept sulcatas outdoors year round, including yearlings of about four inches, for the past several years. I have not lost one yet.

If the torts have grass or hay to burrow under/in they really don't need much more protection. The only difference I find in providing heat is when the adults will lay eggs, and growth rate of hatchlings. If you provide heat, the adults will lay eggs through the winter, if they don't have heat, not until spring. The small torts obviously grow much faster during the winter if they are warm.

Good luck, Phoenix is a great place for tortoises and the African Spurred Tortoise is one of the easiest.
