: As a general rule of thumb..never. He has plenty of places to refuge to if the weather gets too hot for him.
: Also, since I am in Florida there is no reason for him to dig to find moisture either.
: BUT, on the otherhand.......
: If he knows their is something to eat, and his little brain can't process how to get to it (such as in this photograph) then he will dig.
: He digs exactly once a year. Here I caught him red handed as I left the leps pen open by mistake. If you look at that chair in front of him it will give you a idea of the size of the hole which was cut through very hard dirt and roots..took him about an hour (the funny thing is with one swoop of his paw he would have been throught the fence..lol...he opted to go under).

Those pics were great. I'm surprised he didn't/dosen't try to go through the fencing. Do you have it anchored down with something other than the wood? We have heavy chain link fencing that is anchored down under ground with cement and our two, Tonka especially, still try to go through the fencing when they get the urge. If KK can't see through it, it doesn't surprise that he doesn't go through the wooden fence. Our chain link fence has privacy slats, but they both can still see through enough to want to get to the other side. So do you fill the holes up each year? Have you figured out what it is he is going for?
