As a general rule of thumb..never. He has plenty of places to refuge to if the weather gets too hot for him.

Also, since I am in Florida there is no reason for him to dig to find moisture either.

BUT, on the otherhand.......

If he knows their is something to eat, and his little brain can't process how to get to it (such as in this photograph) then he will dig.

He digs exactly once a year. Here I caught him red handed as I left the leps pen open by mistake. If you look at that chair in front of him it will give you a idea of the size of the hole which was cut through very hard dirt and roots..took him about an hour (the funny thing is with one swoop of his paw he would have been throught the fence..lol...he opted to go under).
