I live on the coast in SE Georgia. My sulcata is somewhere between 3 and 4 years old and so far he's doing GREAT.

I did a lot of research before getting a sulcata because of my concerns about the high humidity of the area. My memory is NOT all that great...but I believe there were some problems with wild caught imported torts adapting to high humidity. Many people that I corresponded with seemed to think that captive bred sulcatas would be fine. My sulcata, Nigel, has never had any respiratory problems and has never been sick a day in his life.

I seem to remember (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that some of the first or most successful sulcata breeding colonies in the US were located in coastal areas....the Jacksonville Zoo in FL and somewhere in Hawaii??? Those are pretty high humidity areas and if they were/are successful, I would think that our torts can do fine too.

: Can this species be kept outdoors in humid central Florida? Any thoughts will be appreciated.
: Thanks,
