I agree its more likely kidney problems.
Gout, however is not caused by iron. Its the result of purine metabolism that results in uric acid crystals being depiosited in cartilagenous tissue such as the joints. Among the more common predisposing factors(in humans) are kidney failure from any cause, diuretics, dehydration, hormonal diseases, alcohol and low doses of aspirin. In our animals it can be from too much protien and too little water.
