Sounds gross, but put the turtle in the path of an ant trail and in a few weeks it will be clean. That's what is do sometimes with sea shells.

: Some people might think this deplorable, so I apoligize to those people ahead of time. I have a dead tortoise who's shell I would like to save. The tortoise shortly after passing away was frozen. My question is how can I let this tortoise decompose without losing the scutes and other properties of the shell. Anyone know? I would appreciate any ideas. The shell is beautiful and I would enjoy keeping it around. The shell is from a Spider tortoise, subspecies obalonga. Arguably one of the most ornate tortoise shells around. Again I apoligize to people who might be offended by this notion.
