Joey,
Its possible that these guys retain sperm for years (natures way). I would separate the baby and use earth for a substrate. Most babies really like pill bugs, worms and snails. If you can, gather a rotting stump and use this for a little hidey spot that attracts bugs. They spend most of their lives under things for the first couple of years and often living right beside their dinner.
Im in Texas and always have hatchlings all over the place that have done fine with out any help from me. When found, the just go into a safe smaller pen so they can be inspected ever so often.
Mail me offlist if I can be of further help ok?

: I am a former wildlife rehabber and an RVT. I have two wildcaught tortoises that are unreleasable due to sgell injuries. One is a Gulf coast that I have had for about 18 months, another is a three toe that I've had for about 6 months. this evening I went to give them an evening treat of watermelon, and I found a very small hatchling in their water trough. I was sure they were both girls (I'll check this more closely in the morning). Will species interbreed? or could there be some other explanation? I would appreciate any and all help, as I'm a little unfamiliar with the care of new hatchlings.
: Thanks! Oh yes I live in the south Texas area if that helps.
