Well a Russian has the personality without the size of a sulcata. Hibernating isn't that hard, but you don't have to hibernate the first year anyway so you will have time to study up on it. Redfoots are expensive and will require high-humidity extensive indoor (and outdoor) accomodations. Pancakes are WAY too expensive and in no way a beginner choice. I think they are protected too, but I can't remember their exact status. Check out this great website for Russians info
