I was sorry to hear about the problem you had with your stars.
From my experience, hatchling stars are 'if-y' at best and seem to be very delicate. I purchased a group of hatchlings (five) of which two survived. One of the three developed walloping infections in both ears and died shortly after the vet surgically excised them. The other two developed runny noses that developed into full-blown respirtory infections despite medical treatment. I know stars are very expensive but I doubt I'll ever bother with hatchlings again: it's worth the extra bucks (at least to me) to purchase yearlings or older. I presently have five stars now: three females and two males. They're still a little young to breed but the males have been mounting the females (and each other). Good luck with DW
