I've got a male, adult.
I know what you mean, information can be hard to come by. This place is a great resource, there are some really experienced people here who are generous with their knowledge. I've also had an e-mail relationship with the Egyptian Tortoise Project. Their people have been very considerate with advice and information.
As far as the tort himself goes, he's the best. I know they are viewed as not particularly easy keepers. Given their endangered status I certainly wouldn't recommend them to the inexperienced but... my guy is a trooper and no more demanding than any other species I've kept or encountered. I've seen a theory on this. We know that the vast majority of wild caught (as mine all but certainly is) torts don't last long. The ones who do make it may just be "survivors" with some special adaptive ability that allowed them to get by when others did not.
I know this is pretty general stuff. If you have any specific questions, fire away. I (and I'm sure the heavy-hitters here) will be happy to help.
