Where do I begin?

Hello! I am thinking about getting a tortoise but I don't really know where to begin, are there any books that you can recommend or what I would need to get before bringing a new addition into our home? What type of tortoise would you recommend getting? I have seen some pictures of a few tortoises and I really like the Egyptian, Greek and Russian tortoises not to mention the Pancake tortoise talk about having beautiful markings! Can anyone recommend any reputable breeders as well. Thank you in advance for your help.
