Hi, yes he has been out in a summer thunderstorm,
we have a lot of those nowadays and they pop up
suddenly! The inside of his house stayed dry,
and he was in it alright! It was swamped under
his log and in the flowerpot house, the higher
corner of his pen was still OK, it just rains
so hard so fast that everywhere is wet even
with a slope for drainage.
I've watched him go off the ramp on the sides,
and he can reach and doesn't have a problem,
his shell makes him have to walk out far enough
away from the highest part that he can step
off, if he doesn't walk off the front.
As far as flipping over, I've seen him do it twice
in 2 years that I've had him, once when he was tiny
he tumbled out of a bush we had in his pen (which
we then pulled out and got rid of!) and I ran
out and got him right away, so I don't know if
he would have righted himself, I just fixed him
right away.
Another time he flipped over was when he was climbing
on his "hay house" that he used to have which was
fine till he got too heavy one day to walk on the
roof of it and the roof collapsed, fortunantly I
was there too and promptly got rid of the hay house
and ran out and bought all new aspen and my
husband fixed him that "privacy wall" to sleep
behind that day too.

My vet has turned him over on his back to test
his reflexes, I don't like watching that, I just
can't stand to see that! argg!
