No problem Shirley. Babies shouldn't hate to be soaked but make sure the water isn't too cold and he is dry afterwards. Sometimes they get fussy thought but keep the soaking up, it's important. My sulcata won't eat any red leaf lettuce either but likes green leaf lettuce. They are all picky in their own right. Try making a mix of all allowable foods. Check out my revised care sheet (link below). If you are soaking 2-3 times per week and have water available in the enclosure, and you are still not seeing milky fluids, that is probably because they are coming out in the enclosure and you are not seeing it. I wouldn't worry. Check out the Tortoise Trust website at www.tortoisetrust.org for other info and links for reading. Join the Tortoise Trust mail list (button at the bottom of the Hatchling Haven main page) at: http://home.earthlink.net/~rednine/. I'm not sure about fir chips, but I use Aspen Particles and they work well for me. You can buy a press pack in the rodent bedding section of most pet shops (or have them order a bag for you). Let me know if you have any problems or questions. Good luck!
