I have a year old Hermanns who was incubated at a higher temp to produce females but it also deformed her shell. She has 4 center scutes instead of 5 & also exhibits pyramiding. I can't tell if it's gotten any better or worse since she came to live here but she's obviously healthy, eats like a pig, & seems about as content as any captive born creature I've ever encountered. She's fed a balanced diet of greens, has access to water, & gets about 3 hours of sunshine a day.

My year old Greek lives under the same conditions & eats pretty much the same things & has a relatively smooth shell. Since they came from the same breeder, I would have to assume that the Hermann's shell is due more to genes than environment.

If you want to see an example of severe pyramiding in a redfoot, check out Draybar's Turtles.
