I am new to torts. I have had turtles for a while but got my first tortoise ( a redfoot) at the ohio show last weekend. This little guy is great he is a yearling and is so much more outgoing and active than any of my turtles. I have researched care for it but still have a few questions:
In turtles pyramiding is bad and due to high protien diet, too fast growth. is this the case in torts? the reason I ask is all of the young ones at the show had some pyramiding (several breeders) and thought it would be odd if they all were doing the same thing wrong.
Should I soak him I have read both that they need it and they don't. I always have water avail. in a small dish. He does poo almost every time I soak him.
I have read that redfoots are the exception and can have more fruit in their diet. Is this the case? and how much of their diet I have given him primarily vegggies (romaine, red leaf lettuce, cucumber etc.) and he grazes in the yard when he is out. I did give him a small piece of cantaloupe once and he LOVED it. just wondering how much is OK
Thanks
Andy
