I live in North Carolina and that's what I do in
the winter, as much as I can (if it's not raining
and super windy - we have these "snaps" of cold,
not continuous over the winter time).

I feel the ground, and it's warm in the sun
especially right by the house, and we hang out in
a sunny place where he grazes. I actually make
sure he has a log to go into if I leave him alone
for a bit, it can get too hot in straight sun
despite the air temp. This is when his portable
pen comes in handy.

I used an Active UV light last winter still
for the part of the day when I was teaching.
In the spring and summer I really let him tank
up on outside time/sunlight 11 hours a day.
