As neither the specimen in question nor photos thereof are available to me at this time I'm going to go on the assumption that the various subspecies of Testudo graeca have similar "care and transportation" requirements. My main question is perhaps too general; how does one care for such a tortoise in a northern climate like Canada during the colder months. Also the humidity and other factors are likely unsuitable. If anyone could point me to a source for such information I would be very grateful.
It would seem that Testudo graeca is also prohibited from entering certain countries without necessary documentation due to endangered species and customs laws. But what to do when the nation of origin does not recognize it as requiring such papers and will not issue them? Is this a common problem?
