They are silvery/white and appear pointed at the ends. Springtails love moist environments and are very good at finding them! They feed on decaying organic matter and fungi and are quite harmless. You can reduce the population by totally drying out the substrate but they seem to invariably return when the moisture does. At least they do in my (indoor) redfoot enclosure.
