: : in april i bought 2 sulcatta torts from llreptile. at the time the ad said hatchlings, then in june i saw post that others were buying
: : sulcattas there, and they still thought they just hatched, so i e-mailed llreptile and they said the sulcattas were born around september.
: : well thats almost a year and neither have grown, or gained much weight since them. every day they get to graze outside for a half an hour because thats all
: : the time i can supervise them(while i feed the turtles in the pond) then they come in and are put into their indoor, heat lamped enclosure,
: : where i offer musteard greens, alfafa, kale, collards and other big leafy lettuces. my question is why arent they appearing to gain any weight?
: : any insight would be appreciated!
: : thanks!
: : Nick

: I got Virgil from LLL in December 2000 and they said he was 3 months old which would make him born in September. He has only recently doubled his weight since I got him. It is very slow going, but everyone says that is best. I think some of the things you are feeding them are not the best choices. There are links to food lists in some recent posts by Terry and Annie. Do you know how much yours weigh? Virgil was about 110 grams the last time I weighed him. He started out at 55. Also, Niki who has been very helpful to me, felt Virgil was a bit small. Terry, who has been just as helpful, felt he was just about right. So, unless yours are grossly over or under weight, they're probably just doing their own thing. Good luck.

If the link doesn't work, it's www.sulcatastation.com then go to 'Diet'
It doesn't recommend mustard greens or alfalfa--try dandelion and timothy or grass hay, that kind of thing.
