Bladder stones are solid/concentrated lumps of uric acid,(the white stuff!)
The two most common causes of bladder stones are excess dietary protein, (a diet too high in protein) and dehydration.

So keeping your torts on a low protein diet and keeping them well hydrated will go a long way in helping to avoid bladder stones.

My first sulcata Angel passed a huge bladder stone a couple of weeks after we got her.She strained and strained , finaly a huge bladder stone passed. Almost the size of an egg!

Her diet had been very high in protein at the dealer we got her from. Her diet there consisted mostly of mazuri chow/pellets.

Here she was put on a much more natural diet, grazing mostly (for the fiber she needs), supplemented with opuntia cactus, hibiscus flowers, mulberry leaves and some leafy greens.

The moisture she gets from the greens/flowers etc helps ensure that she doesn't become dehydrated. She's way too big to soak now and although water is available, she rarely drinks.
Terry.
