Wild caught emys are a mess when they come in. A $150 tortoise can/will most often turn into a $200-500 vet bill very, very quickly. Massive parasitism, protozoal overloads, possible herpes, GI problems, renal failure from long term lack of hydration.....

Not many captive breds out there but they are worth every penny.

: I recently acquired a young female burmese brown mt. tortoise and it refuses to eat, doesn't come out of it's shell, and rarily moves. I witnessed her drink ALOT yesterday and her head seems to be somewhat thin and not a full skull like it should be and her eyes seem to be a bit sunken in also. She did drink water though. Will she more than likely die or is there a chance she'll pull through this if I'm patient and she continues to drink? Any comments or suggestions would be helpful.....

: Thanks,
: Barry
