: Obviously where you live is dry. if you are soaking daily in addition to the water in the pen, I dunno. Sounds as if you are doing everything well. The only thing I can think of is that at 2 years of age, the tortoise might not be able to burrow deep enough to cool off and remain hydrated. Have you been soaking every day all along or only just since you found out about the stone?
I soak him very often and he has his water in his pen at all times. He likes the area that has mud in it the best of all. His burrow is 9 feet deep. During the day in the summer time it stays at about 70 to 75 degrees inside of there. He is still sick and getting worse. The blood tests came back and the veterinarian called me and she told me he is having kidney and liver failure. She said there is not to much I can do but keep trying to get him to eat and keep him full of fluids. He is getting puffy looking. I think he is going to die. I had him since he was just hatched. I did all the things the websites told me to do. My boyfriend got him specialty foods and vitamins and we made him a great pen. I never fed him on animal protein. We fed him every day so we know he is not under-nourished or starving.
Thanks, Mary
