Yesterday, I was running around paying bills, etc. I happened to drop into the local Fred Meyer and they had a wonderful display of all kinds of catus and succulents. I noticed a large opuntia with a big section that had dropped off. I asked for some help. The guy came over and I asked what he would charge me for the dropped off piece of pads(must have been 8 or 9), as I wanted it for my tortoises.
He had to call his manager after wondering if tortoises really ate cactus. The manager said 5 cents. Wow! What a deal. I had just bought one last week and figured it would just have to be a nice treat. Now I have plenty to plant as well as feed. Sometimes it pays to have an unusual hobby.
Just couldn't help sharing. They even put it in a double paper bag with tongs so neither of us would have an unhappy meeting with it. Totally made my day!
