: Now, when I first read the original report I was as appalled as the next person but at the same time I couldn't help but wonder what would illicit such a horrendous and extreme response.

An individual documenting land developers entombing tortoises...was left a "message" by someone.(just speculation) but here is really no other explanation. It's just like folks in the timber industry killing spotted owls.

: Having lived in Mississippi for a year and having done some extensive hunting(for photography) in the area I had the pleasure of meeting quite a spread of the local people. The last thing anyone wants is some 'bleeding heart liberal' telling them what they can and cant do.

No bleeding heart liberal here, I can't figure out where you got that from...just asking that folks write to voice opionion to make it easier for those who want to help tortoises be allowed to do so, and that those harming tortoises or entombing them alive be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Public comment helps a great deal.

: If you really want to make an impact, calmly, rationally and collectively get together and form a front and show this people in a peaceful manor that you care. Getting up in a persons face or eliminating what a person thinks is his or her 'right' without their participation will only produce the kind of response you see here.

No one is getting in anyone's face here! It has been asked that those who DO care write letters supporing laws, as well as efforts by citizens who want to help these animals. I lived in Georgia for over 3 years myself, and geographic location has nothing to do with this. Enforcing laws regarding protected species, as well as asking that those who commit horrible crimes like this be punished to the fullest extent of the law is not getting in anyone's face. It's asking for humane treatment and law enforcement.

: The important point is that nothing is accomplished through confrontation but can be achieved through education.

True. BUT..no one is confronting anyone here, all that was asked was that letters be written. I can't figure out where all of this confrontation stuff came from?
