I agree with Justin about keeping them quarenteened for a while untell you are sure that they are not carrying any harmfull parasites or viruses. But I'm not sure about the status of sub-species within Testudo horsfeldi. I have always been under the assumption that there was only one specie, but that there was alot of variation across its geographical range. I personally see no problem with cross breeding the tortoises, unless you are trying to keep one strain of russian tortoise genetically pure for some reason.
