Chanel used to do that at an early age, so we developed a "pooky system." There were "designated" pooky areas (the bathtub) and "designated" pooky times (his daily soak). After doing his duties, he'd get a designated pooky treat (a small bite of his favorite food) sometimes even in the tub after he had done his business.
Now he goes into the bathroom and knocks his shell against the tub when he has to go. He tries to climb in, and the noise gets my attention and I place him into the tub, where he does his business and then gets his daily shower. Easy to clean up, and he looks forward to his after-showering and does not eat it anymore.
However, if he is at his grandma's and playing in her backyard, he searches out any stray doggie droppings. Chanel regards the eating of his own feces as base and below his stature as a family member, but the temptation of the dog's is hard to resist.
Angel NEVER eats her own. But then again, she's not as well potty-trained as Chanel. . . .
