Listen, don't take away his opportunity to hide,
reptiles need this to feel secure and acclimate
well. If you want him to get UV (Of course you do!)
just make him a "privacy wall", so the top is open,
shaped like an L and cover the bottom part with
substrate and there's just a protruding wall he
can hide behind yet still get all the benefits
from the light - I'd switch to an Active UV,
that's my opinion but you can use whatever light
you like.
The picture shows Teddy sleeping behind his privacy
wall, and he had a box in there till he got to
big to walk through it, then he just got two
privacy walls, now he just has a privacy curtain
outside the cage.
