I am so happy (HEAVY SARCASM) that these beautiful tortoises are protected from unscrupulous herp lovers like myself and my wife. It is a shame that bulldozers apparently fall into the "natural predation" category!

Karl,

The real crime is the fact that nothing will be done to save these creatures. The USFWS love to pat themselves on the back over what they did to bring back the alligator population(which was only stopping people from killing them) but really are doing nothing but collecting "bulldozer pacification dollars", using none of this money for treatment AND curing of the disease (URTD)for the ones they relocate in the wild. Keeping that in mind, soon enough that disease will spread to more turtles and reptiles, then soon a rumniant animal.

When somebody asks me the best thing to do with a gopher tortoise when they see it crossing the road I tell them to walk away shaking their head, all along thinking that the best thing to do would be to pick it up and place it in the middle of the road so its death would be swift and it wouldn't have to suffer starving being compacted under tons of dirt.

Ciao'

Giovanni
