: How long is the gestation period for the sulcata tortoise. I saw my tortoise copulating on the 4th of July and am wondering when to start watching for eggs.
: Thanks Gil

Hey, Gil,

I personally would not expect a defined time frame from the time of copulation and egg deposition. My adults breed from early summer until late fall. Females generally begin to deposit eggs in either January or Febuary. The best way to know is to simply keep an eye on the female. Most will be VERY "agitated" (endless pacing) and often refuse food a day or two/three before they lay. I know that's kind of vague, but the time frame should help a little (breeding in summer/fall, eggs in late winter/early Spring here in Florida). Where are you located?

Matt
