Hi everyone:
I recently a acquired a very sick greek tortoise, from a friend in my town.
After lots of vet bills all her problems are almost gone, and she has gained maybe a
half a pound. She is about 6-7 inches long, and gotten ridicuously tame.
I feed her collards, mustards, turnip greens, carrots, yellow squash, her favorite, sweet
potato, dandelion greens, and I use rep-cal every few days. On warm sunny days I let her
roam my yard and graze.
My question is this--A friend of mine who has pretty good experience with tortoises, including
bolson's and hermanns said that the squash and sweet potato is bad, and could cause more gastro-intestinal
problems. What is your view? He told me to feed her romaine, red leaf, green leaf, endive, and escpecially
dandelion, and only occaisionly collards and mustard, and also clover, in order to mimic their natural diet
of weeds and grasses. What's the deal?
Also, how do I tell if she is an ibera, or what other kind of subspecies. I presume she is wildcaught
since she has chips off her shell. A friend of mine got her from Russ Pike in Florida.
Also even after vet trips, she still has bubble nose. The guy who suggested the diet said maybe It is caused by
soaking too much, I had been doing it every other day.
Also when she was taking her medecine for the coccidia, she had to be very hydrated.
Thanks---------------Ian
