In Reply to: Can tortoises hear? Any way to "call" on thm? posted by Alicia on December 17, 1998 at 16:52:10:
Tortoises are very stubborn and really don't do what they don't want to. On that note, my sulcata will come to investigate if we snap our fingers loudly near the floor or tap on the floor. When I call his name he usually looks around at me, but whether he will come when called, I doubt that. Unless he happens to be heading my way anyway or thinks I have food (in which case he runs on over)...they have tympanic membranes which is how they hear (I think this is what they are called) and they hear vibrations and sounds...although exactly how they interpret them or hear them as relating to humans I'm not sure. Hope this clarifies things a little. - Marissa
