How much humidity is too much for a Leopard tortoise? I am expecting my first desert tortoise in a few days, and it is a hatchling leopard.
I have had its habitat set up and the temperatures stablized for a few days now, but I haven't been able to keep the humidity below 60%.
The setup is a 22"x36" super tub with a topsoil/play sand mix. A heat pad keeps the night time temps at 82 deg on ne end and 72 on the other.
A basking light brings the daytime temp up to 92 in the hot zone.
I have been considering modifying a spare room dehumidifier I have to control the habitat. Is this too extreme?
We have hot humid summers, and I don't want the shock the tortoise by having a dry habitat inside and taking it outside into the humidity, so is it better the leave the inside humidity mor closely matched to the outside?
(There will be daily exercise sessions for this little guy)
Thanks..
Brian
