But when I compare the first tort that I though was a female, the tail is..well..not as long as the definite male's, but the tiniest bit longer than the new female's tail. Also thicker at the base. You can see more of the base coming under the shell from the rear view, than you can with the new female.

And I have heard in the past that some immature males can be mistaken for females. A 5" carapace length, I've been told, can still be part of an immature male, considering they grow a bit larger than this.
