While turtles and torts don't typically hang out in
trees (they live their lives on the ground or in
water) some kinds are good climbers. Map turtles
are regularly seen clinging to the sides of trees
that are growing straight up out of the water they
live in. They climb right up the bark and hang there
sunning themselves. North American Wood Turtles are
also excellent climbers that have been known to
scale 6 foot high chain link fences. box turtles have
also been seen climbing fences for that matter.
If you question is "can they", they just might, if
the tree was rough enough. But they probably wouldn't,
unless it was growing up out of water and they were
sunning on it.
