Well turtleman, they are very shy animals to begin with unless you get a captive raised animal or one that has been in captivity for a while. They can make good pets but do take a while to 'warm up' to handling.

: Are hingeback tortoises good pets? Do they stay fairly small? Are they hardy? Can they become acclimated to handling and become socialized?
