: HI,
: This is my first time posting here (I'm a reg. on the Leopard gecko forum : )
: Where I work we have a 10 year old male Sulcatta named "Speedy", who we all adore.
: Lately he has not been "defecating" as often as we would expect considering his appetite (translation, he eats like a PIG, but no poop)
: We've tried soaking him in warm water (about 4-5 inches of water) but it isn't working. Any of you Tortoise Gurus have any tips???
: I'd very much appreciate any and all help.
: Thanks!

Jen.....I agree with Heather. Try the fruit and the soaking. Is he trying to eliminate, straining while trying? We had that problem with our five year old male sulcata about six months ago. He hadn't pooped for a while then started straining when he tried to. With the straining we took him to the vet. They tried a laxative and that didn't work and then they finally put him under and gave him a flushing out. He was impacted with food and absolutely nothing else. PIG...too much to eat at once they guessed and he is a natural grazer. The vet said he hadn't ever seen it before in any of the turtles or torts he sees. There was a lump of stool just too big for him to pass. He apparently had been straining longer than we were aware of and there was some tissue abrasion, so we had to give him antibiotic shots for a while. Don't let it go too long. Good luck.
